Jesus First, Others Second, Yourself Last is the premise of JOY Ministry, a service ministry who's goal is to The Joy Ministry is a service ministry of Beck's Reformed Church in which we provide visitations to our in-home shut-ins,visitations to nursing homes, visitations to hospitals, prepare a meal once a month for our in-home shut-ins,and we sew pocket totes to go on the walkers of the nursing home residents.Yard work, when needed will be provided for our shut-ins, and transportation for treatments and doctor appointments are available also. Encouragement cards are also sent monthly to our shut-ins and hospital bound members.

Began in February 2008, when a few women approached Jackie Garner about leading a beginning crochet class in her home. After the members of the group completed some simple projects, Eddie Garner gave the women a vision through prayer to turn their love of crocheting into a ministry of love and compassion that would reach out to those in need of comfort and solace. Members of the group immediately began crocheting baby caps for Lexington Memorial Hospital and Thomasville Hospital, a project inspired by the “Touching Davidson County with Love”. Members sought other ways to do God’s work through this ministry. Thus, the Prayer Shawl Ministry became a part of “Crocheting for Christ”. The response to this ministry has been overwhelming as the number of crocheters continues to increase to 25+ members. Each prayer shawl is prayed over as they are crocheted and are blessed with a special prayer at our meeting prior to being distributed to those who need them. Projects included in the first 2 years were:

274 prayer shawls sent out, 2184 baby caps, 41 small cross bookmarks for youth group’s mission trip, 100+ angels for the Women’s Spiritual Renewal, 166 crosses for the Women’s Spiritual Renewal, 10 big cross bookmarks for Confirmation Class at Memorial UCC, 8 big cross bookmarks for High School graduates at Beck’s Reformed Church, 119 scarves for Rest Homes, In the process of making prayer shawls for Hospice

“Crocheting for Christ” meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the home of Eddie and Jackie Garner at 6:30 pm. This ministry is open to everyone and is sponsored by Beck’s Reformed Church. Request cards are located in the church narthex.

“The Silent Singers” Sign Language Ministry began in the Spring of 2009 when Jackie Garner introduced sign language through Christian music to her 3rd, 4th, 5th grade Sunday School Class. They signed “Word of God Speak” to Beck’s Reformed Church. It was received with much enthusiasm. All ages, ranging from 3rd grade to adults became interested in learning to sign through Christian Music. Thus, “Silent Singers” was born. Members continue to grow with each performance.

Everyone is invited to join “The Silent Singers” on Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm.

Stay in Touch ministry serves the college students in our community by sending gift packages at holidays and during exams as well as cards of encouragement throughout the year.
